Florascope Workshop in the South of France
A unique workshop event with Jana Roberts Benzon and Lynne Ann Schwarzenberg
Come enjoy a week away from the fast pace of life, creating beautiful pieces of artwork, dining by candlelight, exploring your creativity and convening with other artists in this unspoiled, beautiful corner of France.

When: July 16 to 23 2007

Where: La Cascade, Gwen Gibson's Artist Retreat in Durfort, South of France

Cost: $2200 per person includes 7 nights lodging, all meals prepared by an in-house chef including dinner with wine, 5 days of instruction with time built in for sightseeing.

Students will be responsible for their own travel to/from the airport in Toulouse, France.

Jana and Lynne have combined their creative talents to create Florascope canes which incorporate stunning flower and leaf canes into striking kaleidoscope canes. Their caning techniques vary greatly, and in this workshop you will learn both organic and precision caning, dimensional and flat palette designs, and learn to combine elements from both of their work to create a unique and beautiful creation called a Florascope cane.
Both teachers will share their tips, tricks and finishing techniques, as well as their sense of design and color. With your flower and florascope canes you will learn to create stunning wearable art pieces, like the ones pictured below.
La Cascade: Our Beautiful Location in France

Willow trees dip into the river

La Cascade is the 17th century house by the waterfall that Gwen Gibson has remodeled for art retreats in the South of France. It is in the medieval village of Durfort, a small village nestled in the south of France. The town is on a small river and the region is rich with medieval villages, artists, flea markets and fairs. Durfort has been a center of copper work for centuries.

The name La Cascade well suits the house because it's on a mountain river whose waterfall fills the house with its music. There is a terrace overlooking the stream where we will eat by candlelight under the stars. La Cascade is a large three story house and the studio, complete with ancient beams and skylights, resides on the top floor. The bedrooms are spacious double occupancy.

This workshop is limited to 8 students which will provide plenty of personal attention from teachers, and an intimate environment in which to expand our creativity as a group.
